What are Tungsten Rings?
- Tungsten rings, also known as tungsten carbide rings, are crafted from tungsten, a naturally occurring rare metal and carbide.
- Tungsten carbide is renowned for its durability and is prized for its hardness and high melting point.
- These rings are often chosen as couples, promise, wedding, engagement and vow renewal rings, due to how hard-wearing they are.

Ideal for wedding rings, engagement rings, couples’ rings, promise rings, as a special gift or treat for yourself. Tungsten Carbide is harder than steel or titanium and can only be marked by diamond hardness or above. These are hardwearing rings that can last a lifetime. Properties and Characteristics
- Typically exhibiting a distinctive deep grey ‘gunmetal’ hue, tungsten carbide rings can be polished to achieve a high shine or adorned with various designs through sandblasting, plating and inlay techniques.
- Tungsten carbide is the hardest alloy on earth, meaning these rings are exceptionally robust, resistant to tarnishing, and hypoallergenic, making them an ideal choice for individuals with sensitive skin. Tungsten rings maintain their polish indefinitely, making them a great choice for a long-lasting ring.
What are the Advantages of Tungsten Rings?
Tungsten Rings are Low Maintenance
Tungsten rings require minimal upkeep, as their scratch-resistant nature ensures enduring brilliance without tarnishing over time.
Tungsten Rings are Hard-Wearing
Their hardness reduces the risk of warping, preserving the ring’s shape for years to come. They can only be scratched or marked by diamond hardness or laser.
Tungsten Rings are Hypoallergenic
Tungsten rings offer hypoallergenic properties, making them a safe option for wearers prone to metal allergies. Unlike traditional metals such as gold, tungsten is unlikely to trigger adverse reactions, providing peace of mind to those with sensitivities.
Tungsten Rings Are Unique
Tungsten Rings offer a wide range of styles and inlays. Royal Mile Silver offers tungsten carbide rings inlaid with upcycled whisky barrel wood, sustainably sourced deer antler, Celtic designs, even meteorite and dinosaur ‘gem’ bone. The different inlay options and designs make these rings so unique.
Can Tungsten Rings Break?
- While highly scratch-resistant, tungsten rings are composed of the hardest metal on earth – this can result in shattering if put under extreme force.
- It is advised these rings are removed during heavy manual work, and that care is taken not to drop onto hard surfaces such as concrete and stone.
- Inlays are protected with an extremely hard-wearing epoxy resin, care must be taken with any wooden inlay and your ring should be removed before prolonged contact with water, (hand washing is fine but remove for a long soak in the bath or a swim for example).
How to look after a Tungsten Ring?
- These rings are easy to maintain. A simple wash with soap and water will keep them looking pristine. We do not advise soaking for a prolonged period.
- We recommend no exposure to harsh chemicals while wearing your Tungsten Ring. We also recommend removing at the gym, beach, or pool.

Ring Sizes
We stock a full range of sizes and different widths.
Typically, individuals with smaller ring sizes prefer 6mm widths. For those with average-sized fingers, there’s an even split between choosing 6mm and 8mm widths. People with larger fingers generally lean towards 8mm widths. However, this is not a strict rule, as personal preference ultimately determines the choice.
If you don’t know your ring size, you can get measured for free in most jewellery shops.
We can also send you a ring sizer and you can find information on our ring size guide.
