This weekend on Saturday 15th of November 2025, we are very excited to be opening our legendary Celtic and Tribal Silver Jewellery stall at the world-famous Edinburgh Christmas Market.
The first Edinburgh Christmas Market started over 25 years ago, originally as the German Market, in 1999. This year we are celebrating our 10th year of collaboration with the Edinburgh Christmas Market, building our biggest and brightest stall yet! If you are looking for Christmas gift ideas, we are the stall for you.
Yule and Hogmanay are arguably the biggest celebrations in Edinburgh. Harking back to pre-Christian times, Yule was a festival of fire and light, celebrating the shortest day and longest night of the year. Warming the hearts and hands of our Celtic ancestors, Yule was a festival of fire and feasts to honour the returning of the light to the world. Gift-giving was an integral part of the festivities, a pagan tradition wishing prosperity and good fortune on thy neighbours, hoping for a fruitful year to come. The ancient Celts also used evergreens, such as mistletoe and holly, as decorations to symbolise the never ending cycle of life, death and life.

This year the winter solstice falls on the 21st of December, just a few days before our modern day Christmas celebrations. Lights and warmth were a huge part of pagan ritual and festivities, which have evolved into twinkling Christmas lights, roaring fires and gift-giving.
Gift-giving is a practice as old as humanity itself and has been adopted and adapted by different cultural practices over millennia. We love the feeling of making someone we love happy, so let us help you chose the perfect gift for your special someone, family or friends. Come and chat to our friendly and helpful staff at the Edinburgh Christmas Market to find some new Christmas gift ideas.
Edinburgh’s other favourite holiday, Hogmanay, came a few hundred years later with the arrival of the Vikings. They brought with them the traditions of bonfires and inspired the very Scottish tradition of ‘first-footing’. First-footing is the belief that the first person to cross the threshold of your home after midnight brings good luck! Traditionally bringing with them a lump of coal to symbolise warmth, prosperity and good cheer.
And of course we all know Hogmanay’s most favourite song, Auld Lang Syne by Robbie Burns – the sentiment being that this time of year is a time to reflect on and remember long standing friendships, and to share in the warmth and presence of those with us now.
Why is the stall at the Edinburgh Christmas Market different from our fabulous Silver Jewellery shop at 11 Jeffrey Street, Edinburgh?
We are delighted to be offering an especially curated Christmas Gift idea silver jewellery selection. We have worked hard to design and ethically source unique and original Celtic silver jewellery, beautiful boutique hand-made tribal jewellery and a wide range of fun and hard-wearing tungsten rings.
We hope to see you soon at the Edinburgh Princes Market, from 15th November until the 4th January.
Have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy Hogmanay from all of us at Royal Mile Silver x
