As the days lengthen and the sunlight comes back to the earth to warm our bones, we honour the Spring Equinox as a time of renewal, equilibrium and balance. When day and night are of equal length, we invite you to sit still within the silence of symmetry, setting your intentions for the summer and life to come. Make our beautiful flower and leaf silver rings a treasured talisman for your aspirations to blossom.
Only on the Spring and Autumn Equinoxes, when the Northern and Southern hemispheres pass the mantle of Spring and Autumn onto the other, is there a perfect balance of light and dark.
Each person, place and plant on Earth, is held together in the antechamber of change. A time of harmony and unity, the Spring Equinox re-affirms that opposites attract and contrasts complete.
The Spring Equinox, increasingly known as Ostara, brings us back to the light, beckoning life, re-birth and action; the Autumn Equinox in the Southern hemisphere elicits rest and introspection through darkness. Both are vital and each have their turn in the wheel of life. In Edinburgh, Ostara is an important turning point, as we emerge from a long dark winter, peeking out from behind our scarves, welcoming the arrival of the light. Ostara brings hope, the promise of warmth on our sun-starved skin and a renewed energy and spring in our step.
Daffodils, snowdrops, bluebells and dandelions deliver the first life-giving nectar to the bees, while birds such as swallows and ospreys migrate back to Scotland for the summer months.
You can also attract joy and magic into your life with our gorgeous Sterling Silver bee necklace or flower earrings.
Ostara is named after the Goddess Eostre, who epitomises the resurgence of life after winter. It is no coincidence that Ostara shares key themes and ideas with the celebration of Easter – named after the Goddess Eostre. Renewal, rebirth, transformation and hope reawaken our love for life and laughter. Now is the time to plant seeds as well as intentions and take care of some spring cleaning by doing away with the old to make way for the new. Gift a new flower necklace to a dear friend to share your spark for spring.
How else are Ostara and Easter connected?
You may have noticed the date for Easter Sunday changes each year – this rule was established in 325 CE(BC) thanks to Roman Emperor Constantine the First, during the First Council of Nicaea. He assembled Christian bishops to resolve ongoing theological disputes, consolidate key tenets and in the process, created the rules for dating Easter Sunday.
The rule? Easter Sunday is always the Sunday after the first full moon following the Vernal
Equinox. The Spring Equinox, astrologically known as the Vernal Equinox, always around the 19th – 21st of March, is when the Earth’s axis is neither tilted towards or away from the sun.
A time of perfect balance and equilibrium.
One of the most profound sacred geometric images of ancient and modern times, the Vesica Pisces is composed of two spheres with the same radius, which intersect within each other’s circumference. The Vesica Piscis is an ancient sacred symbol of transformation and reminds us of the duality of existence and the quest for unity. This version is as depicted on the lid of the Chalice Well at Glastonbury Tor in the Southwest of England. An area steeped in mythology and legend , including early Christianity and stories of King Arthur. Wear a Flower of Life necklace or silver earrings to celebrate your transformation into Spring.
