Established 1997 – Edinburgh – Scotland
Personally Sourced – Ethically Traded – Uniquely Designed Sterling SIlver
Royal Mile Silver began in 1997 as a small market stall trading at Edinburgh Fringe Festival on the Mound Precinct just off Princess Street. We sold beautiful screen printed T-Shirts made by our friends at the Sunrise Screenprint Workshop and intricate sterling silver Celtic jewellery. The business owner, Chandra Mather, travelled every winter, visiting tribal cultures around the world that have a rich history in sterling silver crafting. Ethical trade links were forged, from the mountainous Golden Triangle region of South East Asia to the sands of the Sahara Desert, via the chaos of the Indian subcontinent. Chandra learned much about traditional silver making techniques and this guided her as she designed the ranges sold today and ethical trade, ensuring a fair price is paid to the makers has been established with small artisan businesses around the world.
By 2001 we had secured a seasonal trading stance on the world-famous, UNESCO World Heritage site The Royal Mile. This famous street connects Edinburgh Castle with Holyrood Palace and is steeped in history. The same year we were selected to trade on the new official Edinburgh Fringe Market and have continued to be selected every year to trade as part of Edinburgh International Festival and Edinburgh Fringe Festival on the prestigious market.
If you are in Edinburgh and looking for a high quality, unusual piece of silver jewellery then feel free to get in touch and we will let you know where we are trading. We hope to continue to trade in Edinburgh for many years to come. We are currently focusing on our online presence, selling internationally via our Etsy store and to the UK via our website.
